Apple Planning a 'Watch X' To Celebrate The Device's 10th Anniversary

While the next release of the Apple Watch is expected to be relatively minor, the company is reportedly working on creating a revamp of the device for its 10th anniversary in 2024 or 2025.

Called “Watch X” the watch will mark the device’s 10th birthday with its “biggest overhaul yet,” according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in his weekly PowerOn newsletter.

He says that for the release designers are working on creating a thinner watch case and are also looking to change how bands connect to the device. Specifically, the current way the watch bands attach takes up space in the device’s chassis that could be used for a bigger battery or other components. With the revamp, Apple might move to a new magnetic band attachment system.

Additionally, Gurman says he expects Apple to add technology for monitoring your blood pressure using the watch as well as a microLED display that will provide improved color and clarity over the current models.

Apple is expected to announce the Apple Watch Series 9 on September 12. That event promises a small incremental update to the watch from the current version. Rumors and leaks point to the device keeping the same size as current models, 41 and 45 millimeters. The device is also expected to see a faster processor and new color options, but beyond that will be a small incremental update.

At the same event, Apple is expected to announce the newest version of the iPhone. The iPhone 15 is expected to have several updates. Notably, every version of the phone is expected to have a Dynamic Island rather than a notch at the top. The phone is expected to have a smaller bezel, and improved cameras, and will change via USB-C rather than Apple’s proprietary lightning charger.

Rumors last week also pointed to the phone potentially having 2TB of maximum storage, which would be the most storage ever offered on an iPhone.
