Madonna kicked off her Celebration tour in London in a string of stylish outfits. The tour celebrates her four-decades-long career, with Madonna, 65, performing some of her biggest hits – including Crazy For You, Like A Prayer and Into The Groove. The world tour was due to start earlier this year in Canada, but was postponed after she was admitted into intensive care with a serious bacterial infection. Madonna is set to take the tour to 38 cities across Europe and North America throughout 2023 and 2024. In true fashion, her bold costumes have wowed fans and given several nods to some of her eras of the past. Here are some of her edgy tour outfits so far… In an updated cone bra Madonna harked back to one of her most famous onstage looks: the cone bra. Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and worn on tour in London in 1990, the pale pink corseted outfit went down in music and fashion history. The singer paired up with Jean Paul Gaultier again, wearing an updated all-black version of the look. The iconic cone bra shape was instantly recognisable, and styled with tassels at the bottom of the mini dress, with embellished long-sleeve gloves. Earlier this year, Madonna posted a few different versions of the cone bra she’s worn over the years to Instagram, writing: “A trip to my archives is always a nostalgic trip down memory lane! “If I think about my journey through music over the last 4 decades — how could I not think about all the incredible clothes I got to wear and all the amazing designers I was lucky enough to work with!” In a kimono-style outfit Madonna also wore a black floor-length kimono dress with elaborate sleeves by costume designer Eyob Yohannes. She accessorised the look with a bejewelled headpiece that looked like a halo, designed by House of Malakai. It’s not the first time she’s been inspired by kimonos in her fashion – she wore a red version for the Nothing Really Matters music video in 1999. In underwear as outerwear Vetements’ creative director Guram Gvasalia has been working closely with Madonna to design outfits for the tour, including this blue and black lace bustier she paired with shorts and strings of chains. The lingerie-inspired design taps into the trend for ‘underwear as outerwear’ that has been making a splash on the catwalks. In glittering Versace Madonna also performed in a silver Versace smashed mirror catsuit with exaggerated shoulders. A few summers ago when lockdown lifted, there were countless reports of people bunching together on beaches and crowding coves as we all sought to flex our newfound freedom and make the most of the glorious weather. Even now, with all restrictions a distant memory, it seems many people got a real taste for staycations, and are now far more likely to book a break in the UK and Ireland than they were pre-Covid. And while that’s great for homegrown hospitality and tourist trades, it can make finding a peaceful spot a lot trickier – especially if you’re after a beachside break. But search a little harder and there are still many hidden spots to discover along our coastlines – places where it’s possible to sunbathe solo or take a dip soundtracked only by crashing waves. Below are a few secret shorelines that are still under the radar – from England and Wales to Scotland and Ireland – where solitude is (almost) guaranteed. While you’ll struggle to snap up a coastal cabin of your own (they sell for eye-watering prices), it’s possible to book a temporary stay at these modern huts in West Sussex. Find them located on a seven-mile coastal footpath, in a lesser-visited part of the Sussex coast, near the South Downs. Built in 2019, the four self-contained huts belong to The Beachcroft Hotel, where guests can make use of facilities, including an indoor heated pool – useful if the English Channel is too chilly. Best peaceful retreat: Brackenbank Cottage Location: Rame Peninsula, Cornwall It’s hard to imagine there’s a stretch of Cornish coastline yet to be discovered, but the Rame Peninsula – often referred to as the county’s “forgotten corner” – is supposedly so under the radar, even locals are baffled by its whereabouts. To clarify, it’s in the south east, just across the border from Devon, and is surrounded by three bodies of water: River Lynher, River Tamar and the Plymouth Sound. Tidal creeks, sandy beaches and clifftop footpaths characterise the peaceful place, where nearby attractions include Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park: a Tudor property surrounded by landscaped gardens, temples and follies. Perched on a cliff at Whitsands Bay, Brackenbank Cottage is a Scandi-styled hideaway, where gulls swoop overhead and dolphins cruise out front. But Dornoch is an exception – benefitting from its own microclimate, the seaside town is much warmer and evenings are lighter than elsewhere in the country. Madonna and Guy Ritchie got married here years ago, but despite several claims to fame, the sleepy site is still relatively unknown. Close to the beach and just a 45-minute drive from Inverness, Links House is a five-star, 15-room hotel, divided into three cottages. Built in 1843, it enjoys superb views of the Dornoch Firth, and sits on the famous 516-mile NC500 driving route (a favourite of Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, who stayed whilst filming Top Gear). Best beach stays in Wales Best for active pursuits: Ty Cwch Boat House Location: Cwmtydu Further north of Pembrokeshire, and far less busy, the stretch of Cardigan coast between Llangrannog and New Quay is a playground for active pursuits: go hiking, cycling, coasteering, kayaking or surfing. Alternatively, stroll along the shoreline and explore hidden coves. The coastline is dotted with pretty beaches, National Trust sites and sleepy towns. Cwmtydu, in Ceredigion, is a small hamlet, where a winding lane connects to a narrow valley dropping into the sea. Very close to the pebble beach, Ty Cwch Boat House is a collection of three cabins constructed from stacked shipping containers – available to rent either individually or exclusively for a group of 12. Tables and chairs have been upscaled from wooden crates, and large doors can be rolled right back for a glimpse of sea views. There’s ample space to store kit, such as kayaks and bikes, which can be rented locally. The owners can also put guests in touch with qualified instructors, who can design bespoke itineraries. How: From £136 per night (four sharing one cabin) Book now Best beach stays in Ireland Best for foodies: Cliff Beach House Location: Ardmore Bay, Co Waterford Set below a medieval cathedral tower dating back to the 12th century, Ardmore in County Waterford has a superb sandy beach. When the sun shines brightly, swirls of turquoise appear, making it look like an exotic escape. Constructed by the team behind the award-winning Cliff House Hotel, the ultra-modern Cliff Beach House is an exclusive-use luxury rental property a two-minute walk away, which benefits from access to the hotel’s Michelin-starred chefs. Keir Starmer has revealed what his last ever meal would be. In an appearance on the Table Manners podcast, hosted by Jessie and Lennie Ware, the Labour leader described what he would eat for dinner if he was to be cast out to a desert island for six months. We're not sure what it says about whether or not he is suited to be prime minister, but here's the munch. He would have a seaweed salad for starter, tandoori salmon from a restaurant in Glasgow he likes with dahl, plain naan and pilau rice, and he would finish things off with a baked lemon cheesecake. He would also have pinot grigio as his drink of choice because his wife likes it. How chivalrous. Elsewhere on the food-themed podcast, Starmer said he used to eat jam sandwiches after school and gave up meat 25 years ago "out of principle" despite loving it. His 15-year-old son brings meat into the house which tempts him but his daughter and wife are fully vegetarian. "I've had lorry loads of tuna sandwiches since I've been in this job," he said. He eats them on the road travelling or while he is working and usually gets them from Pret a Manger, which will no doubt lead to accusations he is a champagne socialist from those a bit too far on the left. He hates bananas and can't even smell them and isn't a fan of avocados either. Despite the lemon cheesecake, he doesn't really have a sweet tooth and only eats dessert "rarely". Starmer also spoke about how important family life is to him. He spends every Friday night with his family so he can see his children. He also said he "loves cooking" and uses it to unwind on a Saturday. He likes making tandoori quorn and "elaborate" pasta bakes but his teenage children can be fussy. As for politics, because that is probably just about more important for him to speak about than food (but only just), he joined the Labour Party at 16 because of a "burning sense" that there needed to be change which came from growing up with little money. "It just made absolute sense to me," he said. He said polarization in politics was "corrosive" and spoke out against tribal politicians who do not mix with the opposition. He wants the next general election to come as soon as possible because "people are really suffering now" with bills and mortgages thanks to the current Tory government and said he was driven by the desire to help the country, rather than get the Labour party into power.
