Flight attendant reveals why she quit ‘dream job’ to work in McDonald’s
A flight attendant who quit her "dream" job to work in McDonald’s has revealed why she doesn't regret her decision. Swapping the skies for the fast food chain is exactly what Saffron Laszkowicz from Doncaster did, and in a viral TikTok she has opened up about how the career move has proven to be more lucrative. In the clip she began: “I started working at McDonald’s in December 2020 during Covid, I had nothing to do because we were in lockdown.” She went on, explaining that when Covid restrictions began to lift, she followed her dream and began training to be a flight attendant in May 2022. After the six weeks of training, Laszkowicz realised that she would be financially worse off by pursuing her dream career than she would have been if she stayed at McDonald’s. As a compromise, Laszkowicz balanced her job as a Ryanair flight attendant while also picking up shifts at the fast food outlet. @saffronkatiie anyone else quit then come back?? #foryoupage #flightattendant #mcdonalds #cabincrew #ryanaircabincrew #macciesworker #maccies #mcds #crewmember #foryoupage #fyp She continued: “I realised I wasn’t earning as much as I used to so decided to go back to McDonald’s part time in October 2022.” Eventually, due to money and other factors, Laszkowicz made the decision to quit her job as a flight attendant and return to McDonald's full-time. The video has been viewed 2.3 million times and many in the comments agreed that being a flight attendant isn’t as well paid as many may assume. One person commented: “Only reason I haven’t tried to become a flight attendant is because of the pay like I can’t do that to myself.” Another wrote: “People don’t realise how bad flight attendants get paid that’s why I haven’t left retail for it yet.” “Me but with Sainsbury’s. Ended up going back after 3 months because my new ‘better’ job was actually awful,” someone else commented. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Influencer hospitalised for traumatic brain injury after horse falls on her at Arizona ranch
Emmie Sperandeo, a social media influencer known for her Western lifestyle content, has been hospitalised after suffering from a horse-related injury. The 27-year-old influencer, who goes by @steadyrein on TikTok, was injured last week in Arizona when the horse she was riding “spun and fell on top of her,” her father, Marino Sperandeo, told Phoenix-based news station KTVK. “She was holding on to the horse and was whip-lashed by the horse as it fell sideways. That caused her head to hit the floor,” he said. According to the GoFundMe campaign set up to help cover her medical bills, Emmie was airlifted to a trauma centre on 15 May. In addition to suffering two skull fractures from the incident, she was also bleeding from her ears when she arrived unconsious at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). Emmie was already healing from a concussion and broken finger injury that occurred just one month prior, when she was thrown from a bucking horse, her father said. On 19 May, doctors said that Emmie had stabilised and had regained consciousness for brief periods of time, an update on her GoFundMe page read. “She’s a tough kid but she’s got a long road ahead of her,” her father said, adding that all she can remember are memories from seven to 14 years ago. @steadyrein mornin’ #arizona #ranchlife #solotraveler #cowpoke #westernstyle ♬ Sleep on My Side - Megan Moroney Three days later, her family shared that Emmie was stable enough to move from the ICU to the neurological ward where she’ll undergo both speech and physical therapy. However, her sister Natalie said in a message on her GoFundMe page that Emmie ”still is unable to comprehend why she’s here, or why people are writing to her.” As of Thursday (25 May), more than $186,000 has been raised to reach the family’s $250,000 goal for rehabilitation fees and animal care expenses. @steadyrein cant get this outta my head ♬ I'm Not Pretty - Megan Moroney “To everyone who loves Emmie – thank you for thinking of her and sending her the strength that she will need to recover,” read a message on the fundraising page. Emmie Sperandeo has 1.6m followers on TikTok, where she posts videos working on ranches and travelling throughout the US. Most recently, she had documented her journey from Montana to Arizona. @steadyrein ❤️ #montana #solotraveler #oldwest #ranchlife #cowpoke ♬ september sparky deathcap - faith “Praying for you!!!!!” one fan commented on her last TikTok video before the horse-related accident. “You have been a role model for me for so long and I am wishing you a speedy recovery,” another fan said. Salma Hayek explains why she only wore mens’ suits to her early red carpet appearances
Salma Hayek Pinault has explained the reason why she solely wore menswear to many of her early red carpet appearances. The actor, 56, reflected on her decades-long career in Hollywood in a new interview with W Magazine. When asked whether she remembers her first-ever red carpet appearance, Hayek recalled how she wore a “man’s suit” to the occasion because it was the only fashion connection she had at the time. “I didn’t have any connections,” Hayek said, referring to the moment she walked the red carpet at the 1996 premiere of The Birdcage. “The only connection I had was to somebody I knew at Hugo Boss, so I wore a man’s suit because no one else gave me anything to wear.” For the Los Angeles movie premiere, which took place at Mann Village Theatre in Westwood, California, Hayek wore a grey, pinstriped suit jacket with matching trousers and a mock-neck black T-shirt underneath. The Mexican-American actor previously opened up about her first red carpet in a 2021 interview with Vogue India, where she explained that designers had declined to dress her at the time because she wasn’t as well-known in the industry. “I’m Mexican. I’m also very short, which doesn’t help with the weight and doesn’t help with the design," she told the fashion magazine. "But you know, I was ingenious. I took chances. I met someone at Hugo Boss, who was the only connection I had, so I wore man suits for a while.” Speaking to Vogue India, Hayek went on to recall how she wore a “very simple black dress” to MTV Music Video Awards in 1998. While she noted that all the other women were wearing “fabulous dresses” and “beautiful jewellery,” she decided to decorate her body with butterfly tattoos. “Instead of giving me a complex and saying that I don’t have the best dress or they don’t know who I am, I was like: ‘I am fabulous,’” she said. “I painted some butterfly tattoos on myself and I felt happy about myself." While Hayek has since made a name for herself in the fashion world, she hasn’t strayed far from her menswear roots. The House of Gucci star wore another menswear look for her late-night appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1996, where she sported a brown suit with a white button-down shirt and red geometric tie. In 2014, she was pictured wearing a navy blue Saint Laurent suit with a sharp black tie and white button-up shirt, as well as a black tuxedo dress with a matching black bow tie for the premiere of Exodus: Gods and Kings that same year. Not only is the Magic Mike’s Last Dance actor a fashion icon, but she’s also married to French businessman François Henri-Pinault: the CEO of luxury goods company Kering, which owns fashion brands including Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and Alexander McQueen. The two began dating in 2006 and welcomed their now 15-year-old daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, the following year. In March, Hayek walked the 2023 Oscars red carpet with her daughter as her date. She even loaned the teenager a dress from her fashion archives for the event: a vintage red Isaac Mizrahi gown, which Hayek wore in 1997. Meghan Trainor and husband Daryl Sabara welcome second child with unique name
Meghan Trainor and her husband Daryl Sabara have welcomed their second child, a son named Barry Bruce. Trainor, 29, and Sabara, 31, shared a joint post on Instagram on Tuesday to announce the baby news. In addition to their newborn, the pair are also parents to a two-year-old son, Riley. In the caption, Trainor revealed when the baby was born and formally introduced him. “On July 1st (our seven-year anniversary of our first date) we welcomed Barry Bruce Trainor into the world,” she wrote. She went on to share that she welcomed the infant via Caesarean section before thanking her medical team for their support. “He was a big boy at 8lbs 7oz...and sideways (transverse), but we had an amazing, successful C-section, and I finally got my skin to skin time!” the “Mother” singer wrote. “Thank you to all of the incredible doctors and nurses who took such great care of us.” The Instagram post included multiple photos of the newborn with his mother and father, along with snaps of the singer in a hospital bed. In the comments, fans and celebrities celebrated the baby news, with Paris Hilton writing: “Congratulations sis! So happy for you!” “Go Mama!! And welcome to the party, Barry!! What a lucky dude!” Mandy Moore added, while Gina Rodriguez wrote: “He is perfect!!! Congrats sweet superhero mama!!!” In January, Trainor revealed that she was pregnant with her second child when she confirmed the news in an interview with People. At the time, she said she was “ just so grateful [that she could] get pregnant”. “I’m crushing it. This is amazing,” she said in a statement to the magazine at the time. “This is my dream. I’m halfway there - I want four kids!” She went on to reflect on how her second pregnancy was different from her first. “It’s like a real pregnancy,” she said. “The first one was like make-believe. I had no symptoms with Riley to the point where I was like: ‘We need to go to the doctor. There’s nothing in me.’” Since then, Trainor has also opened up about how her first experience with childbirth impacted her mental health. In April, she revealed that she struggled with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after welcoming Riley via Caesarean section. During an interview with Today, she said that after she’d had her child and returned from the hospital, there were times she felt like she was still in the delivery room. “I was like: ‘It’s so weird,’ to my therapist and my doctors,” the “Made You Look” singer recalled. “I was like: ‘It’s like I’m back in my room.’ At nighttime, when the pain would kick in. I was like: ‘Daryl, I’m still on the table, I know she’s inside me.’” Trainor said that the feeling, which went on for “months,” ultimately led to her diagnosis. “They were like: ‘So we have to work through this. That’s a sign of PTSD,’” she recalled. “And I was like: ‘Oh, I didn’t know that.’” PTSD is “a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event through either experiencing it or witnessing,” as noted by the Mayo Clinic. According to the Postpartum Support International, approximately “nine per cent of women” experience PTSD after childbirth Read More Meghan Trainor reveals the symptom that led to her postpartum PTSD diagnosis Meghan Trainor’s ‘big boy’ sex story with her husband is not what you think Meghan Trainor apologises for ‘careless’ teacher remark: ‘I’m so so sorry’ How to go sober if your partner still drinks The shared symptoms of menopause and young onset dementia Fiona Phillips Alzheimer’s diagnosis at 62: 7 ways to reduce your risk
