A flight attendant who quit her "dream" job to work in McDonald’s has revealed why she doesn't regret her decision. Swapping the skies for the fast food chain is exactly what Saffron Laszkowicz from Doncaster did, and in a viral TikTok she has opened up about how the career move has proven to be more lucrative. In the clip she began: “I started working at McDonald’s in December 2020 during Covid, I had nothing to do because we were in lockdown.” She went on, explaining that when Covid restrictions began to lift, she followed her dream and began training to be a flight attendant in May 2022. After the six weeks of training, Laszkowicz realised that she would be financially worse off by pursuing her dream career than she would have been if she stayed at McDonald’s. The video has been viewed 2.3 million times and many in the comments agreed that being a flight attendant isn’t as well paid as many may assume. One person commented: “Only reason I haven’t tried to become a flight attendant is because of the pay like I can’t do that to myself.” Another wrote: “People don’t realise how bad flight attendants get paid that’s why I haven’t left retail for it yet.” “Me but with Sainsbury’s. Lewis Hamilton admits he is staggered by how far Mercedes are still behind the Red Bulls after Max Verstappen blew away the field to take pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix. Verstappen hit back in style after seeing his record 10-race winning run and Red Bull’s unbeaten season ended in Singapore a week ago by finishing a massive 0.581 seconds clear of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. Lando Norris was third in the second McLaren ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez. But Mercedes struggled again, with Hamilton qualifying seventh and George Russell eighth – the seven-time world champion over a second adrift of Verstappen’s pole lap. The Dutchman and Red Bull have dominated the sport over the last two seasons and Hamilton admits the gap that still exists between the two teams is a major concern. “We as a team really need to when we go back and do the debrief – I hope the team already realise – but a second gap is huge. And it is real,” Hamilton said. “To be two years in and still be a second down to the Red Bulls is not a good showing and we need to make sure we work hard over the winter to get back at least half that gap before next year. “We have a very peaky car. It is like trying to balance a knife on its tip. “It is never perfectly balanced, it is one way or the other. You try and get it as close as you can to the middle but it is very hard to do each weekend.” Verstappen topped every practice session but Norris and Piastri had closed the gap in P3 to hint at a fight for pole at Suzuka. But it never materialised thanks to Verstappen’s incredible pace on new tyres in the final session. Wendy’s will be offering a free treat to help people get through the middle of the week for the rest of the year. Starting on Wednesday 8 November, the fast food chain will be giving away free packs of six chicken nuggets with any purchase on every Wednesday until 2024, according to a press release. To get your free treat, the chain is asking customers to redeem the offer using their app or website, or they can also scan the digital Wendy’s Rewards offer code in their respective Wendy’s restaurant. This offer is only available through the next eight weeks. The fast food chain is also offering a special deal for Uber Eats customers. If they purchase a 10-piece pack of chicken nuggets between 6 November and 12 November, they will get a second one for free. Another deal is available for DoorDash customers too. If they add a Dr Pepper to their order between 16 November and 22 November, they will be able to earn $5 off an order that is $20 or higher. This isn’t the first time the brand has decided to give away free items. On 27 October, when Taylor Swift released the re-recording of her album titled “1989”, Wendy’s gave away fries in all sizes to celebrate the album when customers purchased a small Frosty or larger using the app. Wendy’s will be bringing back a fan-favourite menu item just in time for the holiday season in addition to all of their deals. Starting on 14 November, the restaurant will bring back the peppermint Frosty that was first added to the menu last year. When initially released, this was the first-ever holiday-flavoured Frosty the chain had added to its menu. With this new seasonal menu item comes the end of their current seasonal menu item, the pumpkin spice Frosty, which has been on the menu since 12 September. Wendy’s won’t be the only fast food restaurant ringing in the holiday season with free food. Dunkin’ Donuts also recently announced that they would be giving out free doughnut on Wednesdays from 1 November to 31 December.
