Saweetie’s ‘caveman’ inspired VMAs dress unsurprisingly sparks comparisons to The Flintstones
Saweetie’s ‘caveman’ inspired VMAs dress unsurprisingly sparks comparisons to The Flintstones
It appears that Saweetie has taken her latest fashion inspiration from the Stone Age. On 12 September, the “Best Friend” rapper attended the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in a pink, sequin gown featuring a halter neck and her hair pulled back into a sleek pony. However, it was the two oversized bones attached to the dress that seemed to capture everyone’s attention. As she posed for photos on the “pink” carpet outside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, one bone appeared to be tied to her collar, while the other was tied at the waist. The unique dress first debuted in Area’s Fall Winter 2023 collection, which contained several designs full of bones, fur, and animal patterns. While hosting the MTV VMAs pre-show, Saweetie - whose real name is Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper - explained the reasoning behind her eye-catching look. “The inspiration behind this is fashion when it first started: Cavemen,” she said. Saweetie also appeared to be having fun on the red carpet with her caveman-inspired dress, even kissing the bone in one photo. However, it wasn’t just the “ICY GRL” singer who joined in on the fun. In fact, many people took to X - formally known as Twitter - where they cracked jokes about Saweetie’s VMAs look. Unsurprisingly, a number of awards show viewers compared the rapper’s outfit of choice to something from The Flintstones. “Saweetie looks like a Flintstone,” joked one person on X. “Is she wearing the Fred Flintstone collection?” said someone else. “Are the VMAs being held in Bedrock?” a third user wrote. Despite some critics, many fans still complimented Saweetie’s caveman-inspired outfit. “Saweetie look like a Icy Flintstone,” said one user. “I loveeeee her #VMA”. “Saweetie looks soo cute I love her makeup,” another fan wrote. In addition to Saweetie, there were many other memorable fashion moments at this year’s MTV VMAs. Doja Cat wore a barely-there, white Apocene dress that closely resembled spider webs. Her look featured sparse, white fabric draped across her body, with a pair of nude underwear hidden underneath the ensemble. Meanwhile, VMAs host Nicki Minaj took wedding fashion to a whole new level when she arrived in a pink, corset bodysuit with a sheer, lace skirt and a dramatic vail. Taylor Swift leads this year’s nominees with eight nods, followed closely by “Kill Bill” singer SZA, who holds six nominations. Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith are tied at five nominations, and BLACKPINK, Diddy and Shakira each received four. Do Hispanic-Serving Institutions Actually Support Latine Students? It Depends
Saying goodbye to your family and going off to college for the first time is an extremely daunting and intimidating experience — even more so if you’re the first person in your family to do so and are trying to navigate an academic system that wasn’t made with you in mind. For Latine students across the US, Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs) might help bridge the cultural gap that emerges between Latine students entering higher education and institutions that have historically excluded non-white students.

Tea enthusiasts stew over 60-second PG Tips teabag: ‘It’s a massive step backwards’
Tea enthusiasts stew over 60-second PG Tips teabag: ‘It’s a massive step backwards’
Tea enthusiasts are up in arms about a new teabag in the works from PG Tips, which promises to brew in just 60 seconds. While most tea fanatics reccommend brewing a cup of English breakfast tea for three to five minutes, the majority of people are too time-poor or impatient to let their teabag infuse for more than one minute. PG Tips hopes it has come up with a solution by investing £50m on a new a new blend and bag that infuses in just 60 seconds, a venture that has taken the company two years to develop. In its research, the PG Tips found that 85 per cent of tea drinkers leave the bag in to brew for under a minute, while a staggering 45 per cent bin their teabag after less than 30 seconds. Tea experts at the company have developed a new design that features a square bag with room for the leaves to infuse. It is designed to not fold over on itself, which is said to improve the overall taste of the tea. If the bag folds, the leaves don’t have room to expand and can leave the tea lacking flavour. The company claims its new blend has the “perfect particle size” for a quick cuppa. The new blend is grown at high altitudes in Kenya and Rwanda, which the brand claims provides a better taste. However, some tea fanatics are not convinced. Jane Pettigrew, course director at the UK Tea Academy toldThe Times that the time taken for brewing is a key part of a tea break ritual, and rapid teabags, like PG Tips’s new creation, are an abhorrence. “We relish the three or four minutes it takes to brew a real cup of tea and benefit from the zen-like spirit of tea – the slow brewing of tea creates a magical few minutes in a busy, sometimes frantic day,” Pettigrew told the publication. “I really abhor this kind of ‘innovation’. It is not progress but a massive retrograde step backwards in what tea should be.” More than 100 million cups of tea are made every day in Britain, and 97.5 per cent of those are brewed from a bag, rather than made from loose-leaf variety, according to the UK Tea and Infusions Association. PG Tips has also announced that its 60-second teabag will be using more sustainable packaging and designed to have no plastic wrapping. It is said to be fully recyclable, and 33 per cent more compact than the current box. Liam McNamara, PG Tips General Manager, UK and Ireland told MailOnline: “We are immensely proud of the fact that British tea drinkers already enjoy five billion cups of PG Tips every year. “However, our tea-drinking habits and tastes are evolving. “With that in mind, our expert tea blenders have spent two years developing a new and better blend that delivers high quality taste to tea lovers. Our new PG Tips blend means consumers can expect a quicker infusion and a brighter, smoother, more consistent cup of tea that is full of flavour every single time, even for the nation’s impatient tea drinkers.” Read More Cats given vegan diets ‘have better health outcomes’, study claims We tested Jamie Oliver’s new cookbook and here’s our honest review Three ways to pimp up university student classics London’s best new restaurants from the past 12 months ‘Fried rice syndrome’: Dietitians warn against eating food left at room temperature The dish that defines me: Michele Pascarella’s Neapolitan ragu

3 great abs exercises that aren’t crunches
3 great abs exercises that aren’t crunches
Most of us have been guilty of doing a huge number of crunches in the hope of making our tummies trimmer. Then, two weeks later, we’re disappointed nothing seems to have changed. “Think abs and we tend to think ‘six-pack’ (visible or not) – the long muscle that extends along the front of the abdomen,” says PT and fitness expert, Laura Williams. “This often makes crunches our go-to move when it comes to the tum. But the abdominal muscles also include your waist muscles – your obliques – and one of your main core muscles, the transversus abdominis.” Targeting these areas, she says, with a variety of exercises, will help to strengthen all the important muscles of the abdominal area, as well as those in the upper back and hips, helping with everything from a stronger core to preventing injury. 1. Heel Tap Why: Works core muscles. How: From a lying position with legs bent above hips, lower one heel towards the floor, then lift back up. Change sides. Do a total of 12 lowers. Tip: Try to keep your back flat on the mat. 2. Seated Sprinter Why: Works the waist, hip and thigh muscles. How: From a seated position, with both legs off the floor, extend one leg out in front of you and bring the opposite arm towards your inside knee. Repeat on the other side. Do a total of 12 twists. Tip: Keep your torso lifted throughout. Place feet on the floor to make this easier if needed. 3. Pulsing Side Plank Why: Works the shoulder, hip, thigh and waist muscles. How: Lying on your side, raise your body into the air with your weight on the side of your foot and your bottom arm. Rest your top arm on your bottom shoulder and lower your body a short way to the ground before pushing back up. Do 15 pulses. Change sides. Tip: Reduce your range of movement if you fatigue.
