What's The Meg about?
Loosely based on Steve Alten's novel, Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, The Meg follows rescue diver, Jonas Taylor (Statham), as he tries to save a crew trapped in a deep-sea submersible at the bottom of the Pacific. Why is the crew trapped you might ask? Well, because a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark, long thought to be extinct, attacked their ship on sight.
SEE ALSO: The giant megalodon extinction, explainedYup, the Megalodon is alive and well in this elevated version of Jaws. And it's up to some guy to try and stop it.

When is The Meg's sequel being released?
Meg 2: The Trench releases in theaters on August 4. The sequel sees the return of Statham as Taylor who's up against another megalodon (plus some other terrifying sea nightmares).
