LG Now Offers 2-Year Burn-In Warranty on Its OLED Gaming Monitors

LG last year introduced 27- and 45-inch “Ultragear” monitors with OLED panels, but as we noted in our review of the 45-inch model, OLED's downsides include the potential for burn-in from a static image being left onscreen too long.

Initially, burn-in was not covered under LG's warranty, but the company has now updated its policy to cover it retroactively on LG 27GR95QE-B monitors for two years. The moves comes after The Verge asked the company repeatedly why burn-in was not covered on the 27-inch model it was reviewing at the time.

The warranty now covers burn-in resulting from what LG considers “normal and proper use” and excludes “Damage or failure of the Product resulting from misuse [or] abuse.”

Product Marketing Director David Park told The Verge that “as long as you use the monitor as intended (personal PC monitor) in a residential setting (does not support commercial usage like retail signage display) burn-in is covered.”

As for other OLED monitors, which are made by LG Display and Samsung Display, Dell’s Alienware and Corsair offer three-year burn-in warranties. Acer tells The Verge it will help customers dealing with burn-in, though it's not specifically covered by a warranty. Asus said it needed to discuss the issue with LG.
