Kate gives a lesson in autumnal power dressing in a green trouser suit
The Princess of Wales has stepped firmly into autumnal dressing with a forest green power suit for a tour of a heritage textile mill. Kate was visiting Yorkshire-based AW Hainsworth – which has a royal history going back to the 1953, when fabrics made by the mill were on display during the Coronations of Queen Elizabeth II. The 41-year-old wore a Burberry wide-legged trouser suit with gold button detailing and a bright white blouse. She finished the look with a chunky gold chain and matching green velvet block heels. It isn’t the first time Kate has worn the Burberry number – we first saw it in March during a meeting with Norwegian royalty at Windsor Castle. Unsurprisingly, it’s no longer available to buy online. The mum-of-three wore her caramel-highlighted hair loose with bouncy waves, the tone perfectly in keeping with the cooler season, for the tour – during which she was set to learn about the manufacturing process of textiles. Luxury British fashion house Burberry debuted its latest collection last week at London Fashion Week (LFW). It was creative director’s Daniel Lee’s second LFW outing, with celebrities including singer Kylie Minogue, Killing Eve star Jodie Comer and actor Rachel Weisz on the front row. Modern interpretations of the classic trench coat and chic patterned shirts populated the runway, so we could see Kate in more new Burberry designs soon. Kate has a history of wearing chic trouser suits, though. Earlier this month she wore a double-breasted jacket by Holland Cooper during a visit to a Royal Naval Air Station in Somerset, with matching slim-fit trousers that grazed her ankles and chunky gold button detailing. Back in May she went for a colour blocking baby pink Alexander McQueen suit for a visit to the Foundling Museum – matching a pearl belt with court shoes. In Boston, in December 2022, she went for a burgundy suit by Roland Mouret – along with a pussy bow shirt and a Chanel bag that’s been seen on numerous occasions. She proved a sharp white suit can be casual for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, when she chose an Alexander McQueen suit to watch swimming at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre. And during a visit to University Magee campus in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in 2021, Kate went for a slim-fit Emilia Wickstead trouser suit in magenta, over a roll-neck jumper. Naomi Campbell and Gigi Hadid lead first Victoria’s Secret runway show in five years
Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski stormed the runway as the Victoria’s Secret fashion show returned for the first time in five years. On Monday (25 September), the lingerie company broadcast Victoria’s Secret: The Tour ‘23 on Prime Video. Part fashion show, part documentary, it marked the brand’s first televised catwalk show since 2018. It also follows a major rebrand for Victoria’s Secret, after the company was accused of promoting unrealistic body image and failing to protect its models against sexual misconduct. The Tour ‘23 – described as a “reimagined fashion show with a new generation of women from around the world” – is narrated by Hadid, who also appears on the catwalk. Doja Cat provides the musical accompaniment for the show. The feature-length film began with a black screen, before a statement said: “In 2021, Victoria’s Secret began a journey. The goal was to give a new generation of creatives from around the world the opportunity to tell their stories and see their creations brought to life on the world stage. The platform? The VS Show.’ Hadid then appeared barefoot in a nude tasselled dress, walking alongside other models around Barcelona. Campbell, meanwhile, donned a black leather trouser suit and corset-style top as she stood beside Hadid. In a later clip, Hadid was shown in a gold jewelled bustier and matching shorts, teasing in the voiceover: “I mean, come on. We had to bring back a little of the old show.” Also taking part in the show were Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski, who wore a crystal-encrusted strapless top and a crocheted bikini, respectively. Julia Fox, meanwhile, showed off a vibrant yellow dress, while Winnie Harlow appeared in a gold sequin crocheted outfit. Also modelling the collection were Amelia Hamlin, Abby Champion, and Ziwe Fumudoh. Several former Victoria’s Secret Angels, including Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima and Lily Aldridge, also returned for the fashion show. Following criticism, Victoria’s Secret got rid of its team of Angels in 2021. Over the years, Tyra Banks, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Chanel Iman, Heidi Klum, and Lily Aldridge were all part of the group. The Angels were replaced by the VS Collective, a group of seven successful women. The group now includes models Adut Akech, Paloma Elsesser and Valentina Sampaio, as well as journalist Amanda de Cadenet, athlete Eileen Gu, footballer Megan Rapinoe, and actor Priyanka Chopra Jones. Members of the VS Collective and some classic Angels, as well as models Campbell and Gisele Bundchen, recently appeared in the brand’s Icons campaign. Last year, the brand faced further criticism after it was the subject of Hulu documentary series Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons. The documentary delved into the brand’s “misogynistic culture” under former chief marketing officer Ed Razek, who had previously been accused of multiple incidents of inappropriate contact with models. Fans spot Travis Kelce’s ‘1989’ inspired denim suit after he leaves Chiefs game with Taylor Swift
It appears that Travis Kelce is supporting Taylor Swift’s upcoming 1989 album re-release with a very fitting outfit. The Kansas City Chiefs star was seen leaving with the Grammy-winning musician on Sunday 24 September, after Swift was spotted cheering for Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Following the game, which saw the Chiefs beat the Chicago Bears 41-10, the rumoured couple were filmed leaving Arrowhead Stadium together by sports anchor Jarred Payton. In the clip, which has been viewed more than 12m times, Kelce is spotted wearing a blue and white splatter paint denim suit by the brand KidSuper Studios. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the name for the denim suit seemed to pay homage to Swift’s forthcoming album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which is due for re-release on 27 October. “Travis Kelce wore a ‘1989 Bedroom Painting’ matching set piece tonight leaving Arrowhead Stadium with Taylor Swift, very timely for #1989TaylorsVersion,” wrote one fan on X, formerly known as Twitter. Giorgio Armani closed Milan Fashion Week with good vibes and a front row that included Cate Blanchett, Juliette Binoche and Lily Allen. Australian actor Blanchett – a global ambassador for Armani Beauty – championed sustainable fashion by wearing an embellished black jumpsuit with a plunging neckline. The outfit comes from Armani Prive’s autumn/winter 2009 couture collection, and Blanchett is obviously a fan – she previously wore it to the Palm Springs Film Festival in January. Satiny trousers anchored many of the looks — jackets, transparent blouson layers, shimmering tops and off-shoulder chiffon dresses. “Vibrations, that means colours, that means movement, that means a structure that moves on the body,” Armani said. To demonstrate his vision, a model in a shimmering long dress and a diaphanous cape danced down the runway. Kate Moss has admitted she is in denial about reaching the milestone age of 50 next year. Naomi Campbell wears black lingerie on Dolce and Gabbana catwalk
Naomi Campbell stole the show at Milan Fashion Week as Dolce and Gabbana unveiled their spring/summer collection. The iconic supermodel walked the runway in black lingerie, a form-fitting, sheer slip dress, stockings and suspenders, with a black rose corsage around her neck. Watching from the front row were a host of celebrities including Kylie Jenner, British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Halle Bailey, star of the Little Mermaid movie. Love Island host and recent D&G campaign star Maya Jama was also in attendance, wearing a long-sleeved black dress with patent knee-high boots. A few floaty polka dot frocks appeared before the lingerie parade continued with a dizzying array of sheer dresses, ruffled blouses and corset gowns that revealed black bras, knickers, stockings and suspenders underneath. Plus-size model Ashley Graham walked the show in an all-black ensemble. The former Vogue cover star donned a corset and high-waisted briefs with a sheer overlay, stockings and high heels. Russian model Irina Shayk wore a diaphanous slip dress over black lace lingerie. Other underwear-clad models were styled with see-through plastic macs and matching rain bonnets. There was a more sedate section of the show featuring a range of black and white high-necked shift minidresses, some with bib fronts or lace collars, plus several tuxedo jackets. A pair of black skinny jeans was a huge shock given the prevalence of baggy denim on the spring catwalks. Shortly before Campbell took her turn on the runway, a pair of sheer white lace gowns worn over – you guessed it – matching lingerie offered some very sexy bridalwear options. While this collection didn’t deliver much that can be worn in a church, the lacy underwear-esque dresses will no doubt be a hit with celebs who want to send the flashbulbs popping on the red carpet.

Brigitte Barbie: The five women behind Mme Macron’s faultless French chic
Just why is it that we never see the French first lady, Brigitte Macron, commit a fashion faux pas? How is it that this 70-year-old grandmother can, for example, pull off black leather trousers, really quite short dresses, or a swimming costume for a cover shoot? With the King and Queen’s state visit in France this week providing yet another welcome opportunity for scrutiny of Madame Macron’s impeccable wardrobe, she always seems to exemplify faultless French chic. In fact, we’re calling it – with those impossibly toned, glossy bronzed legs, the power blow-dries and endless outfit wins, she’s starting to seem like “Brigitte Barbie TM”. In a good way. The explanation to the questions above can be found within the Mme Macron Venn diagram of style. The French first lady has at her disposal a long list of extremely cool and effortlessly elegant French style icons from which to borrow all manner of trademark looks and ripped-up rulebooks (French women adore a broken fashion rule). This Venn diagram features some of the heroines of French-girl style, from film stars Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve to rock-chic fashion editor Carine Roitfeld, to the most iconic French fashion plate of all, Coco Chanel, with Brigitte Macron standing in the middle of it all, assimilating all of their signatures and making them her own. Sensuality, age defiance, and lots and lots of leg are at the core of it. Who would have thought that you could say that about a first-lady Barbie? So what exactly are the components of the ultimate Venn diagram of Brigitte chic? 1. Carine Roitfeld Bare-legged, kohled eyes, teak-tanned – the superficial similarities between “Brigitte Barbie “and the former French Vogue editor-in-chief, Carine Roitfeld, are plain to see. (Note: that pulling off this formula requires innate French insouciance and je ne sais quoi in order to avoid looking like a superannuated Towie star, as we Brits inevitably would be given the same treatment.) Of course, it wouldn’t do for Mme Macron – at least in her public-facing guise – to go the full rock’n’roll Roitfeld, all femme fatale black leather pencil skirts, lace tights and dresses slashed to the thigh. But Roitfeld’s influence is still clear to see: just a year younger than Brigitte Macron if the ex-Vogue editor says it’s fine for grandmothers – as they both are – to wear towering heels with (some way) above-the-knee skirts, douse themselves in bronzer, and scaffold their eyelashes with whacking great shelves of black mascara, who are we to argue? 2. Brigitte Bardot Most wouldn’t even dare to take inspiration from the blonde bombshell that was Bardot – who are we, after all, to think there could be any physical connection? But, as we are so often told, French women are made of different stuff (not to mention, calorie-negative croissants). They are just naturally confident in their God-given sex appeal – while we wear pants, they wear lingerie, while we wear PJs, they wear negligees. None more so, it seems, than Brigitte Macron, the glamazon of first ladies – the woman who arranged to be photographed in a blue floral halterneck swimsuit on a Biarritz beach for Paris Match ahead of her husband’s 2016 presidential campaign. Smooth, tanned legs, beachy, undone hair, and the victorious smile of a woman who’s bagged a handsome younger husband, there was a clear resemblance of a confident, carefree “Bardot does Cannes” – the original sex bomb; the epitome of feminine sexuality. This is surely Mme Macron’s unspoken cause, to remind women that they too can be sexy whatever their age. 3. Catherine Deneuve Did any woman in French history have a better blonde blowout than the iconic French film star Catherine Deneuve? If glamour, polish and sex appeal are your watchwords (as they evidently are with Brigitte Macron), why wouldn’t you take a leaf out of Deneuve’s playbook and infuse your hair with buttery blondeness, volume and lift? Of course, expensive, high-maintenance hair is a terribly middle-aged French woman pursuit, because they all know that, as ably demonstrated by Mme Deneuve, big blonde hair is a fast track to voluptuousness when the body is perhaps less inclined (the Macrons, by the way, are understood to spend €62,000 a year on hair and make-up, as revealed in 2018 by the French Court of Audit). What’s more, a golden crown of bouffy hair creates a perfect frame for wearing more make-up than is strictly necessary. But the Deneuve reference is not just concerned with big hair – or, indeed, their shared love of late Parisian designer Yves Saint Laurent (which the French first lady wore to welcome the king and queen on their state visit, and which Deneuve commissioned for her first meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II – and which always, always lends an elegant, sophisticated simplicity). It’s about an attitude, one that is cool, sexy and a little edgy, with so much going on beneath the surface. It’s all tres, tres French. 4. Françoise Hardy As any fashion historian will tell you, the French chanteuse Françoise Hardy set the benchmark for wearing leather with effortless chic. In fact, she famously “double leathered” with a black leather biker jacket and black leather trousers while sitting on the back of a motorbike, her luxuriant, fringed hair unfettered by any unsexy safety equipment. Brigitte Macron might not be able to do the motorbike, but she can – and regularly does – do the skinny leather pants. Worn black like Hardy, with yet more of Mme Macron’s beloved sky-high heels, the French first lady ably demonstrates what Theresa May was just never going to grasp – that succeeding with leather, is all about sex. You don’t achieve sex appeal by wearing leather, but rather, you pull off leather when you have an innate ability to deploy some sensuality. Sometimes you just have to leave it to the French. 5. Coco Chanel There surely isn’t a French woman of any standing whose fashion sense isn’t informed by Coco Chanel. And of course, Brigitte Macron would not be doing her job as ambassador-in-chief of French fashion if she were not seen to be wearing plenty of Chanel. But that’s not really the point here. It’s not just about being able to have an ample, Chanel-labelled armoury of classic design, good taste and French chic – as displayed this week when Queen Camilla and the French first lady visited Chanel, Brigitte Macron wearing a red boucle long line jacket from the fashion house (think, as ever, a strong shoulder, a nipped waist and flattering tailoring). Non, it’s about “liberté”. Chanel’s fashion philosophy was about freedom of movement and independence so when Brigitte Macron teams a blazer with jeans (admittedly unlikely on this state visit but clearly in evidence on many a walkabout), you know who paved the way for that. Chanel style is also about ensuring that you are the statement as opposed to your outfit. With Brigitte Macron’s style signature being legs, lashes and a distinct lack of apology for not dressing her age, Coco would surely be proud. Model and influencer Wisdom Kaye defends skinny jeans from Gen-Z critics: ‘I think the hate is stupid’
Fashion influencer and model Wisdom Kaye has spoken out to defend skinny jeans from Gen-Z ridicule. The dated denim has received widespread backlash from younger generations and fashion retail platform VIAVIA only added fuel to the fire when it posted a TikTok on 4 September, in which it interviewed a number of Gen-Zers on which fashion trend “absolutely needs to die”. Multiple interviewees were vehemently against skinny jeans, with one proclaiming: “If you’re rocking skinny jeans, take that sh*t off, go to the thrift, go get some baggy sh*t.” Meanwhile, another added that they looked “especially” bad on men, and one woman said she was trying to convince her boyfriend to stop wearing them. Since its posting, the video has received over 2.1 million views and 5,800 comments, the majority of which consist of millennials defending skinny jeans. Amid the ongoing skinny jeans discourse, fashion model and influencer Wisdom Kaye decided to weigh in on the debate. Kaye posted a video to his 9.2 million followers, stitching VIAVIA’s original video with a video of him styling a pair of black skinny jeans with black boots. The influencer went on to show viewers different ways to style a variety of pants with a skinny fit, including a leather pair and a grey pair. The video racked up over 2.3 million views and over 8,500 comments, with users commended Kaye for illustrating to viewers how skinny jeans could be styled in an updated way. Kaye went on to upload the same TikTok video to X, formerly Twitter, where it received 9.7 million views. “I don’t defend skinny jeans because I love them but becuase I think the hate is stupid,” the model wrote beneath the video. “People swear you can’t look good in them when that’s just not true, I admit typically they’re not styled interestingly but the jeans themselves aren’t the issue. Moschino celebrates 40 years of fashion with spectacular catwalk show
Celebrating ’40 years of love’, Moschino handed over the reins to four friends of the house for its spring/summer show at Milan Fashion Week. Fashion stylists Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and Lucia Liu were invited to create 10 looks inspired by the works of founder Franco Moschino, who died in 1994. To mark the brand’s 40th anniversary, the collection was unveiled at a spectacular runway show split into four acts. Under the stewardship of creative director Jeremy Scott, Moschino has become known for bright, brash and whimsical designs. Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, 73, offered a more restrained take on the usual house codes, with the French stylist opening the show with a model clad in a white double-breasted two piece suit and black rollneck top. Injecting the sleek look with some Moschino glamour, she styled the suit with statement crystal jewellery and a head wrap dotted with chunky diamantes. What followed was the most wearable of the four ranges, featuring wide-leg blue jeans and chinos, navy blazers and knitwear, and a chic beige biker jacket. These were elevated staples, however, and they came with kooky accessories, such as heart-shaped handbags and a tiny micro bag worn as a necklace. Gabriella Karefa-Johnson pulled no punches with her first look, a gold chain skirt and cropped black leather biker jacket worn over a stripey black and white bikini and topped with a cowboy hat. Her 10 looks were a sensationally summery ode to the 1970s and 80s worn by a diverse cast of models who frolicked joyfully down the runway. Skirts ranged from mini (a colourful crochet number) to maxi (several high-waisted styles with ruffled ra-ra hems), teamed with corset tops and boxy blazers. A yellow and green tie-dyed denim skirt and top will no doubt appeal to Gen Z Moschino fans. Chinese stylist Lucia Liu was inspired by the Moschino founder’s painting and her range was all about ruffles. Opening with a pink tiered maxi skirt and a T-shirt printed with the slogan ‘Protect me from the fashion system’, the 10 looks featured lots of floaty chiffon, floral embroidery and cute little bow embellishments. Alongside puff-sleeved jackets, lace tights and diaphanous cargo trousers, Liu rounded off her range with a truly showstopping look. Worn by a Canadian model, the voluminous pink skirt was covered in giant bows and rosettes, teamed with a matching feather-trimmed jacket and vest top with an Italian slogan. The final act, from British stylist Katie Grand, was titled Gone With The Wind and promised ‘frequent nod(s) to irony’. It certainly delivered, with the first model striding out in a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan ‘Loud luxury’, which he stripped off to reveal a tiny crop top and trunks printed with suggestive brushstrokes. A joyous rejection of the understated ‘quiet luxury’ trend that’s taken the fashion world by storm this year, Grand’s black and white range was more about making a statement than it was about selling clothes. Models in catsuits and tutus cavorted on the catwalk, engaging in something that looked like combative dance and generally having a whale of a time. They managed to get round the rectangular runway twice before sprinting off into the wings. A violinist appeared and began a solo performance of Gloria Gaynor’s I Am What I Am as she made her way down the catwalk. As the song morphed into Gaynor’s original version, the models reappeared in white slogan T-shirts and blue jeans, taking a final turn on the runway before the guest designers took their bow. The limited edition designs were made in partnership with the Elton John Aids Foundation. Honouring Franco Moschino’s work on HIV/Aids awareness during his lifetime, all proceeds from sales of the T-shirts will go to the charity. Cindy Crawford has explained why she posed nude for Playboy magazine in 1988, even after her agents told her not to. The supermodel, 57, reflected on the early days of her career in the new Apple TV+ docuseries, The Super Models, which she appears in alongside fashion icons Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. During the second episode of the show, Crawford noted that, after becoming the face of Revlon in the 80s, “things started really happening,” as she was “doing the right campaigns”. However, she claimed that when she was asked to appear on the cover of Playboy in 1988, some of her peers and agents advised her against it. “Everyone in my life at the time thought I shouldn’t do Playboy,” she said. “My modelling agency didn’t feel that that fit into the types of jobs I should be doing. I think the brand still had a connotation to it that maybe scared some people off.” Crawford said she knew why her agency was hesitant about on the gig, given how different it was from jobs she’d had before. “I understood the platform of Playboy and what that symbolised,” she explained. “It was definitely outside the normal trajectory for a Vogue model at the time.” She went on to specify that a famous fashion photographer, the late Herb Ritts, was the one who reached out to her about the project. After she recalled that she and Ritts were “really good friends” and that she “worked with” him a lot and previously “stayed at his house,” she shared another reason why she wanted to pose for Playboy. “I don’t know, there was just something about it that intrigued me. So against the advice of my agents, I said ‘yes,’” Crawford said, before describing the conditions she brought up to the maagazine when taking on the job. “But I said: ‘You don’t need to pay me a lot of money. As long as I can have control of the images, and I wanted the right to kill the story if I don’t like it,’” she recalled telling the publication. Crawford noted that when she did the photoshoot for Playboy, she and Ritts “combined it with another trip that [they] were doing for French Vogue to Hawaii”. And, according to the supermodel, the two photoshoots weren’t all that different from each other. “We’d shoot a picture for French Vogue and then we’d shoot a picture for Playboy,” she said. “I mean, you almost couldn’t tell which pictures were for French Vogue and which pictures were for Playboy, it was very organic and I loved them.” The actor concluded by noting that, despite what other people may think, it was ultimately her decision to pose for Playboy, and she did not feel pressured into it. “That’s the whole thing for me is, even if I make choices that other people disagree with or don’t like, if they’re my decisions and I have control of it, that’s empowering to me,” she said. “Even if it’s doing Playboy. I never felt like a victim of that decision.” This isn’t Crawford’s first time opening up about posing for the magazine. During an interview with Net-a-Porter’s PorterEdit in 2019, she acknowledged that she didn’t have any regrets about being photographed nude for the publication twice, as she also appeared in a 1998 Playboy spread. “I look back at some of my old Playboy pictures and I think: ‘Why wasn’t I walking around naked all the time?’” she said. “I’m not getting younger. So I want to celebrate who I am today.” She also opened up about posing nude in her fifties, and shared the candid reason why she did so in photographer Russell James’ book, Angels. “Part of the reason I wanted to do it was that I thought, at what age is being naked not beautiful anymore? Is there a sell-by date on us?” the model said. “I don’t look the same as I did at 20, 30 or even 40. If we take care of ourselves, why not? Am I frolicking on the beach in a string bikini?
