Man who transformed himself into a dog is looking for puppy love with another human canine
Man who transformed himself into a dog is looking for puppy love with another human canine
A man who shot to worldwide fame for turning himself into a dog has opened up about his longing for companionship. The committed cosplayer, who’s known only by his canine name Toco, spent some £11,000 (2 million yen) on a hyperrealistic, custom-made costume to help him live his childhood dream of “becoming an animal”. The Japanese native began his transformation two years ago when he tasked the company Zeppet – which normally makes costumes for films – with making the full-sized collie suit. The process took weeks to complete and resulted in a jaw-dropping creation weighing around 4kg. “Toco” spent a year wearing his furry disguise in private – getting used to walking around on all fours and getting to grips with his new persona. Then, earlier this summer, he took the plunge and wore it out in public, propelling him to internet stardom. His endeavour, and the expense it entailed, may seem bewildering to most of us, but the man-cum-man’s-best-friend hopes others will follow suit. Indeed, Toco admitted in an interview with the New York Post, published on Tuesday, that he yearned to find puppy love. Asked about the prospect of romance between two people dressed up as dogs, he told the news site: “I think it would be great if something like this existed. “I would like to meet [a woman like this].” One psychologist previously told The Post that Toco is a “therian”, meaning someone who identifies with a nonhuman species, as opposed to a “furry – referring to a subculture whose members enjoy occasional cosplay in an animal costume. In a previous interview with Spanish news agency EFE, he admitted that he’s received a very mixed response to his unorthodox hobby, thanks to his YouTube and TikTok channels which have amassed millions of views between them. “I receive all kinds of messages,” he said. “Alongside the positive messages, some [people] tell me they want to do the same thing, which has made me realise that there are others like me. He did, however, admit that he had been subjected to less positive feedback, with other commentators telling him he was sick and had wasted his money. And whilst his family and closest friends know about his canine alter-ego, he has chosen to keep his human identity secret for fear of harassment. Still, none of the negativity has put him off, and he hasn’t ruled out the idea of getting other dog suits made in the future. He told EFE that although the collie is his favourite dog breed, he also loves a number of others, including the Alaskan malamute, the Siberian husky and the golden retriever – all of which, given their relatively large size, should be pretty easy for him to emulate. He also likes cats, foxes and other animals which would present a whole new challenge. In his interview with The Post, Toco admitted that spending much of his day on all fours was often draining, but he stressed it was worth the pain for the sense of fulfilment it brings him. “Rather than being tough or physically uncomfortable, the feelings of excitement and fun I receive from this experience are stronger,” he said. What we know so far about Naomi Campbell’s Pretty Little Thing collection
What we know so far about Naomi Campbell’s Pretty Little Thing collection
Supermodel Naomi Campbell has shared a glimpse of the new collection she’s designed for Pretty Little Thing. The 53-year-old shared a black and white close-up shot of herself wearing a black leather jacket on Instagram, with “Pretty Little Thing designed by Naomi Campbell” written over it. The collection will drop on September 5 – just a few days before the start of New York Fashion Week, it might be launched with a star-studded catwalk show. Pretty Little Thing first announced the collaboration in June, and the new collection will be “paying homage to Naomi’s legacy and iconic signature style”, according to the brand. “The muse, the supermodel, the moment,” is how Campbell is described on the Pretty Little Thing website, where customers can sign up to find out when the collection drops. It also said: “A supermodel amongst supermodels, Naomi’s cultural impact within the industry is unrivalled. This is the iconic collaboration you won’t want to miss.” September is set to be a big month for Campbell, as it coincides with fashion month and the release of new Apple TV+ docuseries, The Super Models. The documentary will track the rise of models Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington in the 1980s, in a four-part series released on September 20. The four fashion icons featured on the September 2023 cover of British and American Vogue. Talking about the bond they formed, Campbell told British Vogue: “There was a sisterhood there, defined by caring and loyalty: when one is down you pick the other one up.” While there is little indication of what Campbell’s Pretty Little Thing designs will look like, they could channel Nineties minimalism – an aesthetic she helped popularise. This might mean mini dresses, strappy tops and simple silhouettes – or it could channel her more recent style obsession for chic tailoring. Campbell has modelled for the likes of Prada, Yves Saint Laurent and Burberry, and recently announced the birth of her second child, a baby boy. She’s not the first celebrity to collaborate with Pretty Little Thing. Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague has designed collections for the brand – earlier this year stepping down from the role of creative director – as have musicians Teyana Taylor, Lil Kim and Doja Cat. Margot Robbie’s stylist reveals six barely-seen outfits for Barbie press tour
Margot Robbie’s stylist reveals six barely-seen outfits for Barbie press tour
Margot Robbie gave show-stopping performances on every hot pink carpet of the Barbie press tour, but a few of her planned Mattel-inspired outfits weren’t officially unveiled due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes cutting the world-wide event schedule short. To give the missed looks the recognition they deserve, Robbie’s stylist Andrew Mukamal debuted six never seen photos in an 18 July Instagram post. The first image showed the 33-year-old Australian actress in a Versace form-fitting number – pink, of course. Robbie’s sleek hair and makeup matched the subtle shimmer of the metallic strapless dress, with a neckline that looked as if it was the waist of a pair of pants. In true Barbieform, Mukamal adorned the look with baby pink socks, a white box clutch, pink crew socks, and Versace’s heeled loafers. Robbie and Mukamal took Alicia Silverstone’s iconic Clueless yellow two-piece to a whole new level in the second slide. The Wolf of Wall Street star cut a classic Chanel figure in a tweed two-piece and tortoise-print oval sunglasses by Oliver Peoples. Robbie also donned delicate Christian Louboutin white pumps to mimic Barbie’s signature toe stance, while her fuzzy Chanel crossbody added contrast to the otherwise conservative look. Looking pretty in pink, Mukamal styled Robbie in a double-buckle crop top and matching mini-skirt by Versace. The outfit was topped off with see-through pumps by Manolo Blahnik and a Judith Leiber handbag detailed with a sparkly silver bow. The fourth slide showed Robbie from her Australia press tour look: a strawberry-printed Moschino halter dress influenced by the original Barbie. She also brought back her white Louboutin’s, but paired them with Gentle Monster sunglasses and a bouncy updo. In the fifth image, Mukamal showed off his creation from the Mexico City press tour. Robbie was placed inside a life-size Barbie toy box with a logo-printed pink Versace dress and soft satin shoulder bag to match. The sixth and final slide featured Robbie on the hood of a standout pink Lamborghini in Pierpaolo’s Valentino. Her pointed toe pumps mirrored the mini square-neck short sleeve dress by the luxury Italian fashion house. Among Robbie’s notable looks from the highly-acclaimed film premiere was her dazzling black Schiaparelli ball gown inspired by the vintage Mattel “Solo in the Spotlight” doll. The tight-fitting haute couture piece honoured a classic 1960s style fad with a flounce black hem and red rosette. For the final stop in London, Robbie wowed fans in London by wearing Vivienne Westwood. Mukamal tapped into vintage Barbie when he dressed Robbie in three layers of pearl chokers, a baby pink wrap gown with corset detailing, and a detachable white fur trim. The look was completed with a long train attached to a flower that was stitched on one side and fell to floor. The Greta Gerwig film is set to debut in theatres on 21 June in the US and UK.
